Join Barley & Bacaanda on their newest adventure in the My Friend Barley series, The Dream Team, a bilingual baseball book!
Written by local author N.D. Byma, illustrated by Jason Heglund
My niece is learning Spanish and she actually reads this one out loud to me instead of making me do all the work. The illustrations of Barley and Bacaanda at the ballpark are colorful enough that she keeps pointing at details. Nice to find a baseball story that isn't just about winning.
The bilingual text turned out to be a hit at bedtime—my daughter likes pointing at the Spanish words while I read the English. The baseball storyline kept her hooked all the way to the last inning, and the illustrations are colorful without being too busy.
My six-year-old asks for this one every night now, mostly because he loves finding Barley in Jason Heglund's illustrations. Having the Spanish right under the English means my husband can read it too, which has turned bedtime into a whole family thing.
